One of the early LDS mission presidents stationed in Copenhagen, Denmark, was Anthon Lorentzen Skanchy, who held the position from April 29, 1901 to December 6, 1904. A native of Norway, Skanchy moved to Utah after converting to the LDS faith but returned to Scandinavia to serve three missions. Following the death of his first wife, he met Ruth Moore in 1921 in Blair, Nebraska, where he appeared on the Chautauqua circuit as a member of the New England Male Quartet.
